Choose your machine brand and tool pattern. The price depends on the tool type and size band; the machine name alone does not confirm fit.
Five dimensions that matter.
Measure an existing tool, or send a clear photograph beside a rule. The drawing below is an identification guide, not a manufacturing drawing.
- A — punch shank diameter
- The body diameter below the head.
- B — punch overall length
- From the top of the head to the working tip.
- C — punch head diameter
- The widest part of the retaining head.
- D — die outside diameter
- The diameter that fits the die holder.
- E — die height
- The overall thickness of the die.
Also check the retaining arrangement, keys, flats, locating slots and any offset. Shaped punches and dies must be aligned correctly.

Hole size & clearance
A die opening is larger than the punch. The correct clearance depends on the material and thickness. Ask us to specify the pair; do not assume two tools labelled with the same hole size have zero clearance.
Shaped & offset tools
For slots, give overall length and width. Squares use the across-flats dimension. Rectangles need both sides. Offset tools also need the offset direction, distance and orientation confirmed.
Beyond the listed range
Ask about larger sizes, special shapes, shear-angle punches, corner radii or vent-notching requirements. These need an individual quotation and a machine capacity check.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Machine make and model, existing tool references, body dimensions, hole shape and size, material grade and thickness, quantity and delivery postcode. For a shaped tool, include a sketch showing its orientation in the machine.
Why are fit and clearance checked before ordering?
A matching hole shape is only part of the selection. Tool length, shank, head and die holder dimensions must also match. Burrs, uneven cutting and tool damage can result from unsuitable clearance, wear or misalignment. Follow the machine and tooling supplier’s setup instructions.
